Slow dancing in the Fifties was romantic and often elegant. Graceful movements performed in unison by a man and a woman.
Okay, so I didn't actually know anybody cool enough to
look that good, but you've seen Dirty Dancing, so you get the idea.
Actually, we knew this one step and we made the most of it. It's called the box
step.
For Him
![[THE BOX STEP]](boxm.gif)
Step forward on your left
foot.
Slide your right foot up even.
Move your right foot to the
right.
Slide your left foot over to meet it.
Step back on your right
foot.
Slide your left foot back to meet it.
Move your left foot to the
left.
Slide your right foot over to meet it and return to the original
position.
For Her
Step back on your right foot.
Slide
your left foot back even.
Move your left foot to the left.
Slide your
right foot over to meet it.
Step forward on your left foot.
Slide your
right foot forward to meet it.
Move your right foot to the right.
Slide
your left foot over to meet it and return to the original position.
Gentleman, your right hand goes on her waist. Your left hand lightly holds hers at shoulder level. Ladies your left hand is on his shoulder, your right hand in his.
The gentleman leads going forward, while the lady follows, moving backward. This begs social commentary, but in my Fifties ladylike mode, it will have to wait for a more appropriate forum.
Now that you know how to dance, grab your honey and take a spin or two around the floor.

Thank you for visiting the Fifties
Web.
