Star Wars Movie Quotes (1977)
Part IV A New Hope

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet. Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy. . . .

Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia): General Kenobi. Years ago, you served my father in the Clone Wars... now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to present my father's request to you in person. But my ship has fallen under attack and I'm afraid my mission to Alderaan has failed. I've placed information vital to the survival of the rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan Kenobi): The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.

Harrison Ford (Han Solo): Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.

Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan): It's your father's lightsaber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or as random as a blaster, but a more elegant weapon for a more civilized age. For years, the Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy. Before the dark times, before the Empire.

David Prowse (Darth Vader): Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.

Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan): The force will be with you, always.

Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca): Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrgh
Anthony Daniels (C-3PO): He made a fair move. Screaming about it can't help you.
Harrison Ford (Han Solo): Let him have it. It's not wise to upset a Wookiee.
Anthony Daniels (C-3PO): But sir, nobody worries about upsetting a droid.
Harrison Ford (Han Solo): That's 'cause droids don't pull people's arms out of their sockets when they lose. Wookiees are known to do that.
Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca): Grrf.
Anthony Daniels (C-3PO): I see your point, sir. I suggest a new strategy, R2: let the Wookiee win.

David Prowse (Darth Vader): When I left you, I was but the learner. Now I am the master.

David Prowse (Darth Vader): Your powers are weak, old man.
Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan): You can't win, Darth. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

David Prowse (Darth Vader): Today will be a day long remembered. It has seen the death of Kenobi and will soon see the end of the Rebellion.

You might well ask, what got Best Picture in 1977? Annie Hall.

Did you know?
That even though George Lucas had made a bundle for Universal on "American Graffiti," they turned down his proposal for Star Wars. And they could have had it cheap too. Thank goodness for Alan Ladd Jr. (the actor's son) over at Twentieth Century Fox who believed in and supported the project. Smart move, his part. Star Wars recouped the original outlay in the first day. Mr. Ladd became the company president.

That George Lucas smartly took a lessor salary for the script and directing in exchange for 40% of the profits. Also, back then, nobody thought the merchandising would be worth much. So they gave those rights to Lucas. For free. Now that's a force to have with you.

That Kenny Baker, who plays R2D2, is only 3'8" and had to be stuffed inside that costume. Problem was that the silly thing didn't work right and most often R2D2, if he is moving, is being dragged on skis by a nylon rope. When the R2D2 costume did work properly, the motors were so loud that the only way to tell Baker that his scene was over was to rap on the costume with a hammer.

That Peter Cushing's costume for Grand Moff Tarkin came with boots that were too small for comfort. So whenever his feet didn't show he wore slippers.

Carrie Fisher was considered too buxom for a princess so they taped her boobs down.

You really can't see out of the Storm Troopers helmuts. They kept bumping into one another.

The original name of the main character in this film was Luke Starkiller. It was changed to Skywalker on the first day of filming. All early drafts of the script still bear the name "Starkiller".

The scene where Luke and Leia swing across the chasm, Hamill and Fisher really had to swing over a 30 foot drop. Once. Only once.

Star Wars Movie Quotes (1980)
Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

Clive Revill (Emperor): The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.
David Prowse (Darth Vader): If he could be turned, he would be a powerful ally.
Clive Revill (Emperor):Yes. Yes. He would be a great asset. Can it be done?
David Prowse (Darth Vader): He will join us or die, my master.

Frank Oz (Yoda): Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi. My own counsel will I keep on who is to be trained! A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph! Adventure. Heh! Excitement. Heh! A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless!

Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker): I can't. It's too big.
Frank Oz (Yoda): Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere. Yes, even between the land and the ship.

Frank Oz (Yoda): Yes, a Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan's apprentice!
Mark Hamill (Luke): Vader... Is the dark side stronger?
Frank Oz (Yoda): No, no, no. Quicker, easier, more seductive.
Mark Hamill (Luke): But how am I to know the good side from the bad?
Frank Oz (Yoda): You will know... when you are calm, at peace, passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack.

Frank Oz (Yoda):Stopped they must be; on this all depends. Only a fully-trained Jedi Knight, with the Force as his ally, will conquer Vader and his Emperor.
Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan): Patience!
Mark Hamill (Luke): And sacrifice Han and Leia?
Frank Oz (Yoda): If you honor what they fight for? Yes.
Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan): If you choose to face Vader, you will do it alone. I cannot interfere.

Mark Hamill (Luke): I understand. R2! Fire up the converters.
Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan): Luke! Don't give in to hate. That leads to the Dark Side.
Frank Oz (Yoda): Strong is Vader. Mind what you have learned. Save you it can.
Mark Hamill (Luke): I will. And I'll return, I promise.

David Prowse (Darth Vader): The force is with you young Skywalker, but you are not a Jedi yet.

David Prowse (Darth Vader): If you only knew the power of the Dark Side. Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.
Mark Hamill (Luke): He told me enough! He told me you killed him.
David Prowse (Darth Vader): No. I am your father.
Mark Hamill (Luke):No! That's not true! That's impossible!
David Prowse (Darth Vader): Search your feelings you know it to be true.
Mark Hamill(Luke): Nooooo! Nooooo!

Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Trivia
Did you know?
That Jabba's sail barge scene was shot in Yuma, Arizona under strict secrecy. The crew pretended to be filming a movie called "Blue Harvest" (Horror beyond your imagination) and even went so far as to make tee shirts and caps with the phoney film name.

Star Wars Movie Quotes (1983)
Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

Frank Oz (Yoda): Soon will I rest, yes, forever sleep. Earned it I have. Twilight is upon me, soon night must fall.

Frank Oz (Yoda): (his last words) Luke, there... is... another... Sky...walker.

Mark Hamill (Luke):Yoda spoke of another.
Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan): The 'other' that he spoke of is your twin sister.
Mark Hamill (Luke): But I have no sister.
Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan): To protect you both from the Emperor, you were hidden from your father when you were born. The Emperor knew, as I did, that if Anakin were to have any offspring, they would be a threat to him. That is the reason why your sister remains safely anonymous.
Mark Hamill (Luke): Leia! Leia is my sister.
Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan): Your insight serves you well.

Mark Hamill (Luke): If I don't make it back, you're the only hope for the Alliance.
Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia): Luke, don't talk that way. You have a power I don't understand and could never have.
Mark Hamill (Luke): You're wrong, Leia. You have that power too. In time you'll learn to use it as I have. The Force runs strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. And... my sister has it. Yes. It's you, Leia.
Carrie Fisher (Leia): : I know. Somehow, I've always known.

Harrison Ford (Han Solo): I'm sure Luke wasn't on that thing when it blew.
Carrie Fisher (Leia): He wasn't. I can feel it.
Harrison Ford (Han): You love him, don't you?
Carrie Fisher (Leia): Yes.
Harrison Ford (Han): All right. I understand. Fine. When he comes back, I won't get in the way.
Carrie Fisher (Leia): Oh. No it's not like that at all. He's my brother.

Mark Hamill (Luke): I can't kill my own father.
Alec Guiness (Obi-Wan): Then the Emperor has already won. You were our last hope.

Mark Hamill (Luke): Your overconfidence is your weakness.
Emperor Palpatine: Your faith in your friends is yours.

David Prowse (Darth Vader): The Emperor has been expecting you.
Mark Hamill (Luke): I know, father.
David Prowse (Darth Vader): So, you have accepted the truth.
Mark Hamill (Luke): I've accepted the truth that you were once Anakin Skywalker, my father.
David Prowse (Darth Vader): That name no longer has any meaning for me!
Mark Hamill (Luke): It is the name of your true self, you've only forgotten. I know there is good in you, the Emperor hasn't driven it from you fully. That was why you couldn't destroy me, that's why you won't bring me to your emperor now.
David Prowse (Darth Vader): I see you have constructed a new lightsaber. Your skills are complete, indeed you are powerful as the emperor has foreseen.
Mark Hamill (Luke): Come with me.
David Prowse (Darth Vader): Obi-Wan once thought as you do. You don't know the *power* of the Dark Side, I *must* obey my master.
Mark Hamill (Luke): I will not turn, and you'll be forced to kill me.
David Prowse (Darth Vader): If that is your destiny.
Mark Hamill (Luke): Search your feelings, Father, you can't do this. I feel the conflict within you. Let go of your hate.
David Prowse (Darth Vader): It is too late for me son. The Emperor will show you the true nature of the Force. He is your master now.
Mark Hamill (Luke):Then my father is truly dead.

David Prowse (Darth Vader): Luke help me take this mask off.
Mark Hamill (Luke): But you'll die.
David Prowse (Darth Vader): Nothing can stop that now. Just for once let me look on you with my own eyes.
(Luke takes off the mask one piece at a time)
Sebastian Shaw (Anakin Skywalker): Now go my son. Leave me.
Mark Hamill (Luke): No, you're coming with me. I'll not leave you here. I've got to save you
Sebastian Shaw (Anakin Skywalker):You already have, Luke. You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister, you were right.
Mark Hamill (Luke): Father, I won't leave you

Star Wars VI Return of the Jedi Trivia
Did you know?
That Darth Vader is a multi-faceted fellow. His body belongs to David Prowse, his voice to James Earl Jones and his face to Sebastian Shaw.

That to thwart movie merchandise pirates, they leaked the erroneous title "Revenge of the Jedi." (Hey, Jedis don't take revenege, dummies!) Well, sure as God made little green apples, merchandise appeared with the false title. And if you happened to have bought any of it, it's worth a lot of money today!

That the word "Ewok" is never used in the film.

The radiating shafts making up the floor of the second Death Star's reactor core are actually 1,500 fishing rods.

Star Wars Movie Quotes (1999)
Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi): But Master Yoda says I should be mindful of the future.
Liam Neeson (Qui-Gon Jinn): But not at the expense of the moment.

Natalie Portman (Queen Amidala): You're a slave?
Jake Lloyd (Anakin Skywalker): I'm a person and my name is Anakin.

Pernilla August (Shmi Skywalker): There was no father. I carried him, I gave birth, I raised him. I can't explain what happened.

Pernilla August (Shmi): Now, be brave, and don't look back.

Jake Lloyd (Anakin): I will come back and free you mom, I promise.

Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan): Don't defy the council, Master, not again.
Liam Neeson (Qui-Gon Jinn): I will do what I must, Obi-Wan.

Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan): I have a bad feeling about this.
Liam Neeson (Qui-Gon Jinn): I don't sense anything.
Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan): It's not about the mission, Master. It's something... elsewhere. Elusive.

Natalie Portman (Queen Amidala): I will not condone a course of action that will lead us to war.

Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu): You refer to the prophecy of The One, who will bring balance to the Force. You believe it's this boy?

Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan): The boy is dangerous. They all sense it, why can't you?

Frank Oz (Yoda): Hard to see, the dark side is.

Frank Oz (Yoda): Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. I sense much fear in you.

Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace Trivia
Did you know?
The events of this film take place 32 years before Star Wars IV A New Hope.

George Lucas' deal with Fox provided that he owns the entire negative of the final cut of the film as well as ancillary rights of all toys and commercial tie-ins. He gave up a director's salary. No loss there.

When the trailer was released to movie theatres they had to agree to return it promptly to avoid pirated sales. Many theatre owners reported people paying for a full movie ticket, staying only to see the trailer and then leaving.

Some poor Canadian theatre showed the trailer A DAY too soon. By accident, no less. They lost the rights to show the film. Lucas and Fox don't kid around. The rules are the rules!

Queen Amidala's throne-room dress took eight weeks to design.

Natalie Portman's voice was digitally enhanced to distinguish between Padme and Queen Amidala.

Star Wars Movie Quotes (2002)
Episode II - Attack of the Clones

Natalie Portman (Padme): You're not all-powerful, Ani.
Hayden Christensen (Anakin): Well, I should be!

Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan): Your clones are very impressive. You must be very proud.

Frank Oz (Yoda): Mmm. Lost a planet, Master Obi-Wan has. How embarrassing. How embarrassing.

Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan): (to Anakin) Why do I get the feeling you'll be the death of me?

Hayden Christensen (Anakin): You're the closest thing I have to a father.
Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan): Then why don't you listen to me?

Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine): You don't need guidance, Anakin. In time, you will learn to trust your feelings. Then, you will be invincible. I have said it many times, you are the most gifted Jedi I have ever met.
Hayden Christensen (Anakin): Thank you, Your Excellency.
Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine): I see you becoming the greatest of all the Jedi, Anakin. Even more powerful than Master Yoda.

Hayden Christensen (Anakin): I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead, every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children, too! They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals! I HATE THEM!

Hayden Christensen (Anakin): You're going to pay for all the Jedi that you killed today, Dooku.

Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan): We'll take him together. You go in slowly on the left...
Hayden Christensen (Anakin): No, I'm taking him NOW!
Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan): No Anakin, NO!

Christopher Lee (Count Dooku) I have become more powerful than any Jedi. Even you.
Frank Oz (Yoda): Much to learn you still have.

Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan): I have to admit that without the clones it would have not been a victory.
Frank Oz (Yoda): Victory! Victory you say? Master Obi-Wan, not victory. The shroud of the dark side has fallen, begun the clone war has.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier Trivia
Did you know?
That this is the first Star Wars film in which Yoda (Frank Oz) is entirely computer-generated. Oz was only required on the set to help the actors with the voice of Yoda.

Every single clone trooper seen in the film is computer generated.
