Schindler's List Movie Quotes (1993)

Ben Kingsley (Itzhak Stern): I'm required to tell you by law: I'm a Jew.
Oskar Schindler: Well, I'm a German. So there we are.

Ben Kingsley (Stern): Let me understand. They put up all the money. I do all the work. What, if you don't mind my asking, would you do?
Liam Neeson (Oskar Schindler): I'd make sure it's known the company's in business. I'd see that it had a certain panache. That's what I'm good at. Not the work, not the work... the presentation.

Ralph Fiennes (Amon Goeth): Today is history. Today will be remembered. Years from now the young will ask with wonder about this day. Today is history and you are part of it. Six hundred years ago when elsewhere they were footing the blame for the Black Death, Kazimerz the Great, so called, told the Jews they could come to Krakow. They came. They trundled their belongings into the city. They settled. They took hold. They prospered in business, science, education, the arts. With nothing they came and with nothing they flourished. For six centuries there has been a Jewish Krakow. By this evening those six centuries will be a rumor. They never happened. Today is history.

Ben Kingsley (Stern): This list... is an absolute good.

Liam Neeson (Schindler): The unconditional surrender of Germany has just been announced. At midnight tonight, the war is over. Tomorrow you'll begin the process of looking for survivors of your families. In most cases...you won't find them. After six long years of murder, victims are being mourned throughout the world. We've survived. Many of you have come up to me and thanked me. Thank yourselves. Thank your fearless Stern, and others among you who worried about you and faced death at every moment. I am a member of the Nazi Party. I'm a munitions manufacturer. I'm a profiteer of slave labor. I am...a criminal. At midnight, you'll be free and I'll be hunted. I shall remain with you until five minutes after midnight, after which time--and I hope you'll forgive me--I have to flee. (to the factory's SS guards) I know you have received orders from our commandant, which he has received from his superiors, to dispose of the population of this camp. Now would be the time to do it. Here they are; they're all here. This is your opportunity. Or, you could leave, and return to your families as men instead of murderers. (The guards exit; he addresses the workers.) In memory of the countless victims among your people, I ask us to observe three minutes of silence.

Ben Kingsley (Stern):It's Hebrew, it's from the Talmud. It says, "Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire."

Liam Neeson (Schindler): I could've gotten more out. I could've gotten more people if I just tried harder. I threw away so much money. You have no idea. If I just...
Ben Kingsley (Stern): There are over 100 families here as a result of what you did.
Liam Neeson (Schindler): I didn't do enough!
Ben Kingsley (Stern): You did so much.
Liam Neeson (Schindler):This car. Why did I keep the car? Amon would've bought this car. 10 people right there. This pin, 2 people, This is gold! 2 people he could've given me 2 people at least one. One person. One person who is dead. One person I could've gotten out and I didn't!

That the story is true?

In the1960s, Oscar Schindler was honored in Israel and declared "Righteous" and invited to plant a tree in The Avenue of the Righteous, which leads to the Yad Vashem Museum in Jerusalem. A memorial in the Park of Heroes praises him as the Saviour of more than 1,200 Jews.

That the rest of Schindler's life was marked by financial failures. He was largely supported by the "Schindlerjuden," the Jewish people that he had saved.

Oscar Schindler died of liver failure in Frankfurt on October 9, 1974, at an age of 66. He is buried in Israel in the grave you see at the end of the movie.

That Martin Scorsese turned down the chance to direct the film in the 1980s, as he felt that a Jewish director could provide a better treatment of the material.

Director Steven Spielberg was unable to get permission to film inside Auschwitz, so the scenes of the death camp were actually filmed outside the gates on a set constructed in a mirror image of the real location on the other side.

Steven Spielberg refused a salary was not paid for this film as he felt that it would be "blood money".

Searchers Movie Quotes (1956)

Ward Bond (Reverend Clayton): Well, the prodigal brother. Ain't seen you since the surrender. Come to think of it, I didn't see you at the surrender.
John Wayne (Ethan Edwards): I don't believe in surrenders.

John Wayne (Ethan): I figure a mans only good for one oath at a time, and I took my oath to the Confederate States of America.

John Wayne (Ethan):Our turnin' back don't mean nothin', not in the long run. She's alive, she's safe for a while. They'll keep her and raise her as one of their own til, until she's of an age to... Injun will chase a thing till he thinks he's chased it enough. Then he quits. Same way when he runs. Seems like he never learns there's such a thing as a critter that'll just keep comin' on. So we'll find 'em in the end, I promise you. We'll find 'em. Just as sure as a turnin' of the earth.

Ward Bond (Reverend Clayton): You wanna quit Ethan?
John Wayne (Ethan): That'll be the day.

Jeffrey Hunter (Martin Pawley): I hope you die!
John Wayne (Ethan): That'll be the day.
John Wayne (Ethan): What you saw wasn't Lucy...What you saw was a buck wearin' Lucy's dress. I found Lucy back in the canyon. Wrapped her in my coat, buried her with my own hands, I thought it best to keep it from ya.
Harry Carey Jr. (Brad Jorgensen): Did they...? Was she...?
John Wayne (Ethan): What do you want me to do? Draw you a picture? Spell it out? Don't ever ask me! Long as you live, don't ever ask me more.

Searchers Trivia

Shawshank Redemption Movie Quotes (1994)

Bob Gunton (Warden Samuel Norton): I believe in two things: discipline and the Bible. Here you'll receive both. Put your trust in the Lord; your ass belongs to me. Welcome to Shawshank.

Morgan Freeman (Ellis Boyd 'Red' Redding): Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.

Morgan Freeman (Red): (narrating) The first night's the toughest, no doubt about it. They march you in naked as the day you were born, skin burning and half blind from that delousing shit they throw on you, and when they put you in that cell... and those bars slam home...that's when you know it's for real. A whole life blown away in the blink of an eye. Nothing left but all the time in the world to think about it.

Tim Robbins (Andy Dufresne): If they ever try to trace any of those accounts, they're gonna end up chasing a figment of my imagination.
Morgan Freeman (Red): Well, I'll be damned. Did I say you were good? Shit, you're a Rembrandt!
Tim Robbins (Andy): Yeah. The funny thing is - on the outside, I was an honest man, straight as an arrow. I had to come to prison to be a crook.

Tim Robbins (Andy): Get busy living, or get busy dying.
Morgan Freeman (Red): (narrating) I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend.

Tim Robbins (Andy):(in letter to Red) Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.

Shawshank Redemption Trivia

That the music Andy Dufresne plays on the Tannoy is Mozart's Che Soave Zeffiretto, from The Marriage of Figaro. See, now you have culture!

That the movie is from a Stephen King story, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.

Silence of the Lambs Movie Quotes (1991)

Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal Lecter): Hello, Clarice.

Jodie Foster (Clarice Starling): If you didn't kill him, then who did, sir?
Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal): Who can say. Best thing for him, really. His therapy was going nowhere.

Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal): You know what you look like to me, with your good bag and your cheap shoes? You look like a rube. A well scrubbed, hustling rube with a little taste. Good nutrition has given you some length of bone, but you're not more than one generation from poor white trash, are you, Agent Starling? And that accent you've tried so desperately to shed? Pure West Virginia. What's your father, dear? Is he a coal miner? Does he stink of the lamp? You know how quickly the boys found you... all those tedious sticky fumblings in the back seats of cars...while you could only dream of getting out... getting anywhere... getting all the way to the FBI.
Jodie Foster (Clarice): You see a lot, Doctor.

Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal): A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal): Why do you think he removes their skins, Agent Starling?
[sarcastically]
Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal): Thrill me with your acumen.
Jodie Foster (Clarice): It excites him. Most serial killers keep some sort of trophies from their victims.
Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal): I didn't.
Jodie Foster (Clarice): No. No, you ate yours.

Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal): I do wish we could chat longer, but I'm having an old friend for dinner. Bye.

Sneakers Movie Quotes (1992)

Timothy Busfield (Dick Gordon): National Security Agency.
Robert Redford (Martin Bishop): Oh, you're the guys I hear breathing on the other end of my phone.
Timothy Busfield (Gordon): No, that's the F.B.I. We're not chartered for domestic surveillance.
Robert Redford (Martin): Oh, I see. You just overthrow governments and set up friendly dictators.
Timothy Busfield (Gordon): No, that's the C.I.A. We protect our government's communications, we try and break the other fellow's codes. We're the good guys, Marty.
Robert Redford (Martin): Gee, I can't tell you what a relief that is, Dick.

Robert Redford (Martin): You know I could have been in the NSA, but they found out my parents were married.

David Strathairn (Whistler): Fellas, Janek's little black box is on his desk between the pencil jar and the lamp.
Dan Aykroyd (Mother): Uh, Whistler, I hate to tell you this, but you're blind.

Robert Redford (Martin): Too Many Secrets

Sidney Poitier (Donald Crease): There isn't a government on this planet that wouldn't kill us all for that thing.

Ben Kingsley (Cosmo): There I was in prison. And one day I help a couple of older gentlemen make some free telephone calls. They turn out to be, let us say, good family men.
Robert Redford (Martin): Organized crime?
Ben Kingsley (Cosmo): Hah. Don't kid yourself. It's not that organized.

Ben Kingsley (Cosmo): There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!
David Strathairn (Whistler): I want peace on earth and good will toward man.
James Earl Jones (Bernard Abbott): Oh this is ridiculous.
Robert Redford (Martin): He's serious.
David Strathairn (Whistler): I want peace on earth and good will toward man.
James Earl Jones (Abbott): We are the United States Government. We don't do that sort of thing.
David Strathairn (Whistler): You're just gonna have to try.
James Earl Jones (Abbott): Ok, I'll see what I can do.
David Strathairn (Whistler): Thank you very much. That's all I ask.
