That the story is true?

In the1960s, Oscar Schindler was honored in Israel and declared "Righteous" and invited to plant a tree in The Avenue of the Righteous, which leads to the Yad Vashem Museum in Jerusalem. A memorial in the Park of Heroes praises him as the Saviour of more than 1,200 Jews.

That the rest of Schindler's life was marked by financial failures. He was largely supported by the "Schindlerjuden," the Jewish people that he had saved.

Oscar Schindler died of liver failure in Frankfurt on October 9, 1974, at an age of 66. He is buried in Israel in the grave you see at the end of the movie.

That Martin Scorsese turned down the chance to direct the film in the 1980s, as he felt that a Jewish director could provide a better treatment of the material.

Director Steven Spielberg was unable to get permission to film inside Auschwitz, so the scenes of the death camp were actually filmed outside the gates on a set constructed in a mirror image of the real location on the other side.

Steven Spielberg refused a salary was not paid for this film as he felt that it would be "blood money".

That the movie pays tribute to the late Harry Carey, whose son plays Brad and wife Olive plays Mrs. Jorgensen. In the closing scene, John Wayne, framed in the doorway, holds his right elbow with his left hand in a pose that was pure Harry Carey.
