Last Train to Memphis:
The Rise of Elvis Presley

by Peter Guralnick

The first half of the biography series
Careless Love :
The Unmaking of Elvis Presley

by Peter Guralnick

The second half of the biography series
Peter Guralnick has written perhaps the best pair of books on Elvis. He is even-handed and fair, neither overly adoring nor overtly critical. Last Train ends when Elvis goes into the Army.

Elvis : Unknown Stories Behind the Legend

by Jim Curtin, Renata Ginter (Contributor)
Elvis, the Early Years : A 2001 Fact Odyssey (2001 Fact Odyssey Series)

by Jim Curtin, Renata Ginter (Contributor)
I like all of Jim Curtin's books. They are easy reads and always have unusual and new info you don't see everywhere else.

Elvis : Word for Word

by Jerry Osborne
Elvis Day by Day

by Peter Guralnick, Ernst Jorgensen
This book I like for it's authenticity. Osborne, a Memphis DJ, and Elvis were friends. But mostly I enjoy reading what Elvis actually said instead of what other people "claim" he said. Another from Peter Guralnick who had access to 35 TONS of Elvis material which is distilled in this book. An unusual but interesting view.

Elvis & You :
Your Guide to the Pleasures of Being an Elvis Fan

by Laura Victoria Levin, John O'Hara
Are You Hungry Tonight? :
Elvis' Favorite Recipes

by Brenda A. Butler (Editor)
A wonderful compendium of information for the Elvis fan which makes a great resource book. Part of what makes this so much fun is that it is a cardiologist's nightmare. Umm, good!
